Creating Useful, Usable, and Engaging Experiences
A useful, usable, and engaging user experience creates a meaningful connection with your customers. Your investment in technology won't really begin to produce results until your application communicates with users in a way they find persuasive and relevant.
As a user experience professional based in Boston, I've served a number of roles, both as a creative director leading design teams and as an interaction designer working directly with internal resources. Projects have ranged from .NET and portal development environments to stand-alone open-source projects. Among the usual components of a User Experience Project:
User Experience Components
Discovery in which the team defines objectives and scope, and creates a project roadmap;
Early User Input from direct open discussions with users that can be distilled into a User Experience Strategy;
Information Architecture that provides a distilled, visual representation of the user flow;
Use Cases which document in a narrative form the user's interaction with the system, and the planned functionality;
Wireframes which provide a low-fi visualization of the contents and navigation of each screen experience;
Visual Design which transforms the wireframes into digital graphic images complete with colors, textures, and storyboarded interaction design states;
User Testing in which users react to the user experience concept, indentifying gaps between the site theory and the user reality;
Concept Refinement which allows for design revisions based on the user testing outcomes;
